My new piece on the Huffington Post, “The Morning I Removed the Rings,” is raising a bit of a ruckus. As I write this there are just about 117 comments and I’d love yours. Feel free to leave it here or on the Huffington Post site. Thanks!
Stirring up trouble. Just one of my many talents.

Anyone who has read Susan’s books cannot doubt the deep, unique love she and Stu shared. Playful and affectionate, they laughed their way through every painful situation. It was impossible not to envy their relationship. It is impossible not to feel her pain.
To say that removing her rings shows she is back on the market is ridiculous, not to say hateful. Rather like Rush Limbaugh’s comments directed toward a young woman and providing fodder for his own perverse fantasies.
It is no one’s business how Susan deals with her anguish. Rather than sniping at her, maybe some support would be helpful. If that is beyond your powers, keeping your opinions to yourself would be preferable. Give that a try.
Ruckus, indeed. The genuine connection the essay made with people is clear in how some showed their empathy, and others a sort of greedy selfishness.
Glad I don’t live in some of those people’s heads!!
