So maybe you’re writing a new book, you’ve launched a new product, you just left your job to start your own business. Maybe you just bought a fixer-upper that you’re starting to work on. Whatever it is, you’ve got to take it at your own pace (and for Pete’s sake, don’t aim for perfection!).

It’s never a good idea to measure ourselves against others who are pursuing a similar project or endeavor and who might be a bit further down the road than we are.

Why?

Because when we do that, we feel insecure, we feel like we’re not keeping up or we’re not as good as, and we start doubting our talents and abilities.

That’s a recipe for disaster.

Whatever you’re pursuing, learn from the roadblocks you encounter, learn from (but don’t measure yourself against) the folks ahead of you on the path, share your knowledge with those starting out, and most importantly, take it all at your own pace.
